The logo for the Cowichan 2008 North American Indigenous Games is a contemporary rendition of images that have deep spiritual meaning in the culture of Cowichan Tribes. The Eagle and Grandmother Moon represent protection, for our teachings and our identity, but also for our children, the leaders of the next generation. Traditional teachings remind us that we must consider the impact our actions and decisions will have on future generations. As we head into the seventh North American Indigenous Games, stronger than ever, we should reflect on this wisdom. The Journey of a Generation is our vision for providing guidance and supportive environments for our youth as the Cowichan Valley prepares to host the 2008 North American Indigenous Games and beyond.

Delmar Johnnie, also known as Seletze, a name given to him by his grandmother, is a storyteller and artist who was raised in Khenipsen, one of the seven original villages of the Cowichan Tribes. His commitment to his history and his culture is very much reflected in his art. He works in a number of mediums, including printmaking, etching, silk screening, carving, drum-making, oil painting, and in recent years he has focused on jewellery-making. He is also the illustrator of When the Rains Came, a book of Salish legends. Delmar is dedicated to protecting and educating the youth of today, offering his time and experience to numerous youth programs.
